Afternoon, all.
The new year is well underway, so it must be about time for the first
OSIA update of 2016.
** Submission to the Australian Taxation Office **
On Friday (15 Jan), OSIA lodged a submission to the ATO in response to
their Digital by default consultation paper.
Copies of the submission can be obtained here:
http://www.osia.com.au/drupal7/corporate-documents/response-ato-digital-default-consultation-paper
The board thanks OSIA Director Paul Foxworthy for leading the effort on
this matter.
** Member referral service **
There has been another small delay to the launch of the first limited
beta trial of the OSIA member referral service -- please accept our
apologies for that. Nevertheless, progress continues and we now
envisage that the trial of the service will commence by Sun 24 Jan.
Paul Foxworthy will post an announcement to this list seeking
expressions of interest within the next week, so stay tuned for more
information.
** Linux.conf.au **
LCA2016 is just around the corner in only two weeks' time (1 to 5 Feb,
in Geelong). As usual, many OSIA members and their staff are likely to
be in attendance -- and if you haven't booked yet, I hear they still
have a small number of tickets left, see:
http://linux.conf.au/register/info
There has been some talk of convening an OSIA BoF at this year's LCA,
so for the next couple of weeks keep an eye out on the LCA wiki at
https://linux.conf.au/wiki/Birds_of_a_Feather_sessions_%28BoFs%29
Either way, I look forward to catching up with many of you there.
** Board meetings & strategic plan review **
The board met by teleconference on Monday (11 Jan) and will next
meet on Sat 6 Feb in Melbourne.
As always, OSIA members are encouraged to bring any pertinent matters
(and indeed your views on them) to the attention of the Board, either
on this list or by contacting any of us directly.
Also on 6 Feb, the board will be undertaking a minor review of the
OSIA strategic plan. Members are welcome to comment on the current plan
and its suitability or otherwise for the future. Please send your
comments off-list to Jessica Field (OSIA Director, Communications)
<comms at osia.com.au> by Sun 24 Jan.
Regards,
Jack Burton
