Evening, all.

While much of Australia begins to recover from another sweltering day,
it's time for OSIA's second update of the month -- another short one.

** Call for EoIs to serve on the board **

The call for expressions of interest in serving on the 2018 board
opened on New Year's Eve and will close at 5:45pm (Sydney time) on 23
January. If you have just subscribed to the osia-members@ list in the
few weeks, you can get your copy from the list archives here:
https://lists.osia.com.au/pipermail/osia-members/Week-of-Mon-20171225/000310.html

Sadly, the level of response to the call for EoIs so far has been
underwhelming, with only one EoI lodged to date.

The interim board has asked me to remind everyone that unless further
people emerge during the last 5 days of the call, we will need to look
at winding up OSIA.

If you are not in a position to lodge an EoI yourself, please consider
reaching out to others at your company or in the broader .au FOSS
industry who might be suitable candidates.

** January SGM **

A Special General Meeting of OSIA members will be held in Sydney on Thu
25 Jan at 5:30pm (just after the close of proceedings for the day at
LCA2018, in the same building).

The notice, agenda, papers & proxy form were sent out on 4 Jan, both to
the lists and by post. If you have just subscribed to osia-members@ in
the last couple of weeks, you can get your copy from the list archives
here:
https://lists.osia.com.au/pipermail/osia-members/Week-of-Mon-20180101/000311.html

Thanks again to the LCA2018 organising team for generously providing us
with a venue for this SGM.

I look forward to seeing many of you in Sydney on Thursday 25th.

** Membership **

Just a quick reminder that the next few days are your last opportunity
to join OSIA (or renew your membership if it has lapsed) if you want to
be eligible to cast a vote at the January SGM.

Remember also that, it being half way through the financial year
already, currently membership fees are only being charged at half price
-- so for anyone who has perhaps fallen by the wayside over the last
couple of years, now is the perfect time to renew.

** Board meetings **

The interim board met (by teleconference) on Wednesday (17 Jan). It was
an efficient & productive meeting, with 16 action items delegated.
Whilst we might not have achieved everything that we had wanted by the
time of the handover of 27 Jan, the interim board has made substantial
progress during its very short term and we look forward to reporting to
the new board on that next weekend.

The interim board will hold its final meeting (again by teleconference)
on Wed 24 Jan (the day before the SGM).

The new board will meet for the first time (in Sydney) on Saturday 27
January 2018 (the day after the last day of LCA2018). Those seeking to
join the new board should keep that day free to attend the board
meeting (either in person, particularly if you'll be in Sydney for LCA
anyway, or by teleconference). Notice & draft agenda of meeting will be
distributed in advance to all those who lodge EoIs (see above).

As always, OSIA members are encouraged to bring any pertinent matters
(and indeed your views on them) to the attention of the board, either
on this list or by contacting any of us directly. The email addresses of
all board member are available here:
