Afternoon, all.

The OSIA board were deeply saddened to hear this week that Janet
Hawtin-Reid had passed away.

Janet was involved with OSIA from its very beginning in 2004 in
addition to many other FOSS-related endeavours such as LinuxSA, Linux
Australia, LocalFOSS and Software Freedom Day. Her lobbying efforts to
bring FOSS into the South Australian Government way back in 2006 will
long be remembered too.

I'm sure she'll be missed by many of our members.

There is little more we can add to the words said already elsewhere by
Arjen Lentz & Kathy Reid, so we refer you to their comments here:

and here:

Many of you will no doubt recall Janet as the designer of OSIA's iconic
logo.

Fewer however might know the story behind the imagery in the logo (even
I hadn't heard it until yesterday), which Arjen described well in his
post on bluehackers.org -- it's an interesting story which I'd
encourage you all to read.

Our thoughts are with Janet's family and friends at this difficult
time.

Regards,
